Edouard Gergondet is an associate in the Government Relations & Public Law and International Trade practices of the Brussels office. He advises and represents companies, consortiums, trade associations and governments on a wide range of international and EU trade matters, including trade defense proceedings, international trade agreements, WTO law, export controls and economic sanctions, as well as customs regulations.

Edouard frequently assists clients in trade defense proceedings, including anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard investigations. He was involved in numerous trade defense proceedings, in which he acted for both domestic producers and exporters, before the EU institutions, as well as third country investigating authorities in China, Mexico, Morocco, Turkey and other countries. Edouard’s experience covers all stages of trade defense proceedings, from the lodging of complaints to litigations before the European Courts.

Edouard advises and represents governmental and private clients on the interpretation and practical implementation of all aspects of international and bilateral trade agreements negotiated by the EU, including on the provisions of the WTO agreements.

Edouard is experienced in advising and representing multinational companies on the implications of EU export control and economic sanctions regimes and on their application by EU Member States.

In his regulatory practice, Edouard advises and represents clients on customs matters and notably on the interpretation and application by the EU institutions and Member States of the origin, tariff classification, economic tariff regimes and customs valuation rules, as well as on the EU’s General System of Preferences.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown in 2016, Edouard worked for a top-tier international law firm in Brussels, where he acquired extensive experience in assisting clients before administrative authorities and jurisdictions, inside and outside the EU.

In addition to his native French, Edouard is fluent in English.
