We believe the informal training and apprenticeship that results from working on client matters alongside more experienced lawyers is invaluable to every lawyer’s development and growth. We supplement this with formal legal and professional skills training through in-person and on-demand programs, practice group meetings and self-study opportunities.

Our goal is to help lawyers enhance a broad range of skills ranging from legal writing and editing, to oral advocacy and case management, to business development and people management. We also provide training to keep lawyers abreast of current developments and unique issues of interest to a particular area.

We also run development centers for our associates at key milestones in their career, with the aim of both developing them personally, as well as encouraging relationships and collaboration with peers across offices and practices. International secondment programs also provide a unique opportunity to expand and enhance lawyer skills and deepen knowledge in a new region.

To help lawyers identify and achieve career goals, we provide one-on-one and group coaching in areas such as career and business planning, maximizing mentor relationships, transitioning to and from leave, time management and effective communication.

We are committed to helping new lawyers transition to the firm, guiding mid-level lawyers in strategizing about career goals and working closely with senior lawyers approaching partnership. In addition, we offer formal and informal mentoring opportunities to provide valuable guidance and support as lawyers integrate into Mayer Brown and progress in their career.
