Overview
Yoshi is a partner in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and a member of the International Trade and Public Policy, Regulatory & Government Affairs groups. His practice includes wide-ranging international trade policy and regulation issues, and transnational business matters, especially those involving US-Japan bilateral concerns, as well as those involving government agencies.
Yoshi’s international trade practice covers export/import matters, economic sanctions and embargoes, foreign direct investments, international competition regulations, and related issues. He counsels foreign corporations doing business in the United States and Japan on issues affecting their business operations, such as general corporate law, litigation and dispute settlement strategy, employment and immigration matters, and lobbying regulation.
Yoshi previously served in the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as deputy director of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Division and Cultural Affairs Division, and assistant director of the First North America Division and Asian Policy Division. During his service, he handled political and economic matters between Japan and the United States and was a member of the Japanese delegation of the final phase of the market access negotiations of the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Earlier in his career at the Foreign Ministry, Yoshi served as aide to the Japanese ambassador to the United States in Washington DC. He also served as an official interpreter for the prime minister and the foreign minister and has participated in numerous official meetings at the highest levels of government.
