Mayer Brown today announced that Sebastian Maerker will join the firm’s Capital Markets practice as a partner in the Frankfurt office, further strengthening the depth of expertise in its European and international debt capital markets offering.

Sebastian Maerker brings over 25 years of experience advising issuers and underwriting banks on domestic and international bond issuances, including sustainability-linked and green bonds, MREL notes, AT1 instruments, hybrid bonds, and Pfandbriefe. Sebastian also advises on the establishment and updating of debt issuance programs. Sebastian will join the firm in mid-May 2026.

Sebastian Maerker’s appointment further expands Mayer Brown’s capabilities in Germany and complements the firm’s international capital markets offering, with a presence in the world’s major financial centers across the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Dr. Martin Heuber, Managing Partner in Germany, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Sebastian to our capital markets team in Frankfurt. With more than 25 years of experience advising on complex bond transactions, he further strengthens our offering in Germany and across our international platform. His arrival reflects the continued strategic expansion of the firm.”

Dr. Patrick Scholl, Head of the German Capital Markets Practice, said: “Sebastian is highly regarded for his expertise in debt capital markets and brings extensive experience across a broad range of transactions, both domestic and international. His addition, alongside the recent promotions of Marcel Hörauf and Alexei Döhl to partner, reflects the continued development of our Frankfurt capital markets practice and our focus on supporting clients with increasingly complex financing needs.”

Sebastian Maerker commented: “Mayer Brown’s capital markets practice has continued to develop in recent years and, with its international platform focused on capital markets law and finance, provides an excellent environment for my clients and practice. I look forward to working with colleagues in Frankfurt and across the firm’s global network on sophisticated capital markets transactions.”

Sebastian Maerker is recognized by Chambers Global 2026 in the area of Capital Markets: Structured Finance as Senior Statespeople for Capital Markets: Debt and is a National Leader in Who’s Who Legal Germany 2025, among others. He joins Mayer Brown from Clifford Chance, where he was a partner for more than 20 years.

With the addition of Sebastian Maerker, Mayer Brown continues the strategic expansion of its finance and capital markets capabilities in Germany. The firm hired Dr. Burkhard Jäkel, partner in the Banking & Finance practice, in January 2026.
