Overview

Patrick Scholl is a partner and head of Mayer Brown's Banking & Finance practice in Germany. Patrick leads the Mayer Brown capital markets and derivatives offering in Germany with a European focus. His team advises on debt capital markets issuances and disclosures, debt issuance programs, hybrid capital instruments and liability management transactions. The OTC derivatives practice focuses on advising and negotiating master agreements (including repos and stock lending), collateral solutions, netting questions and provides transaction support with regard to all underlyings, including equity-linked, credit-linked, fund-linked or commodity-linked derivatives. Patrick's recent work also focuses on a number of significant issues currently surrounding the regulation of the OTC derivatives markets, the testing of key derivatives principles, and the clearing of financial products through central counterparties. A material part of Patrick’s derivatives practice centers around structured products. Patrick’s team advises many major issuers in their institutional and retail oriented structured product offerings in Europe.

Patrick also leads our regulatory offering in Germany. Our team in particular provides transaction based advise with respect to general prudential regulation and licensing aspects, own funds requirements, risk mitigation techniques as well as recovery and resolution considerations. Moreover, the team is involved in benchmark regulation, LIBOR transition, BREXIT, payment services, outsourcing and digitalization projects. Patrick’s team has a market wide high reputation in market infrastructure, derivatives and central clearing issues. The German legal publisher JUVE commented that “only a few competitors can hold a candle to it in these specialist areas”. Patrick is regularly appointed by banking and market associations to assist in the development of new standards for the derivatives and capital markets.

Before joining Mayer Brown Patrick worked for two other renowned international law firms in Frankfurt and New York.
