Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown advised Potássio do Brasil throughout the environmental licensing process to obtain the Installation License (LI) for the Autazes Project, issued by the Amazonas Environmental Protection Institute (IPAAM), which will allow the start of the mine works for the exploration of potassium chloride (sylvinite) in Autazes, in Amazonas, in addition to the construction of the functional and administrative part of the complex that will host the project.

The Brazilian National Mining Agency (ANM) had already granted Potássio do Brasil the mining right and, after a long legal battle, IPAAM issued the LI that will allow the construction of the mining facilities and investments in infrastructure and environmental aspects to begin.

The Autazes Project will receive an estimated investment of US$3 billion for its implementation and it is expected that, during the construction phase and throughout its operation, around 1,300 direct jobs and 13,000 indirect jobs will be created. Furthermore, the annual production capacity is estimated at 2.2 million tons of potassium chloride, corresponding to around 20% of Brazilian consumption and with the potential for expansion to meet 50% of the country's consumption needs, significantly reducing Brazil's dependence on imported fertilizers.

Partners Luis Adams, Alexandre Chequer, Luiz Gustavo Bezerra, and counsel Gedham Gomes led the team.
