Derek L. Wright

Derek L. Wright is a partner in Mayer Brown’s Chicago office and a member of the Restructuring practice. Derek has extensive experience in complex bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including chapter 11 proceedings, out-of-court restructurings, bankruptcy litigation, section 363 asset sales and other insolvency-related matters and distressed scenarios.

Derek represents various stakeholders in bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including creditors, secured creditors, trustees, creditors’ committees and debtors. He regularly represents creditors and trustees in large and complex chapter 11 proceedings spanning multiple industries, including in the recent chapter 11 cases of J.C. Penney Corporation, Inc., LATAM Airlines Group, S.A., Halcon Resources Corporation and Avianca Holdings S.A. He also represents various clients in bankruptcy and related litigation matters, including a trustee as creditor in a complex, multi-national litigation seeking recovery of a nearly $1 billion judgment through various creditor claims, including fraudulent conveyance.
