Mayer Brown has won the "Asian Pro Bono Initiative of the Year" award at the Asia Legal Awards 2020 for the second consecutive year.

The winning program was "NGO Marketplace," which Mayer Brown hosted alongside its pro bono partner, PILnet, to provide a platform akin to a commercial exhibition event that matches NGOs to Mayer Brown lawyers who are interested in pro bono work.  The program was the first of its kind in Hong Kong when introduced in 2019, and Mayer Brown was the first law firm to organize this type of event.

The inaugural NGO Marketplace included NGOs advancing various causes, including those that work with vulnerable teens, intellectually disabled people, refugees, cancer patients and their families, people with lower income, women and migrant workers.

"I am very pleased that Mayer Brown has once again been recognized for its innovative pro bono programs," said Menachem Hasofer, co-chair of Mayer Brown’s Asia Pro Bono Committee. "Our firm has a deep commitment to pro bono, and these awards further inspire us to continue to serve our community in need."

In addition to the pro bono award, Mayer Brown was also recognized for its participation in the China Singyes Solar Technologies' debt restructuring, which has won "Finance Deal of the Year: Insolvency and Restructuring" at the Asia Legal Awards 2020.
