On the 26th March 2026, the European Parliament adopted a directive aimed at harmonising the fight against corruption across the EU. Whilst its preventive provisions remain modest, it is paradoxically the repressive component, with sanctions of up to 5% of global turnover and the recognition of compliance programmes as a mitigating factor, that will most incentivise companies to invest in prevention. For French companies, already well-structured under the Sapin 2 framework, this directive confirms anti-corruption compliance as a European standard and gives them a head start.
