(Unconscious) Bias in LGBT+ Contexts

Other Speaker     Alasdair Maher, trainee solicitor

Mayer Brown’s LGBT+ Network is delighted to invite you to an online discussion of (unconscious) bias in LGBT+ contexts using Zoom.

Over the course of the session, members of the Network’s steering committee will discuss a number of scenarios (many of them taken from their own real-life experience) that involve bias affecting different members of the LGBT+ community, including lesbian, gay, bi, trans and non-binary individuals. The session will be facilitated by Mayer Brown colleagues from a variety of roles and departments, rather than by diversity or training professionals.

The discussion is intended to be an opportunity for attendees to consider a variety of ways in which LGBT+ individuals – many of whom of course have other diverse identities – may experience conscious or unconscious bias in a professional setting, and explore ways of avoiding such situations. The session will be a safe space in which participants should feel free to ask questions and engage in discussion – or to stay silent if they prefer to do so. We hope that it will be a source of useful practical insight as to how we can create welcoming and positive work environments.
