Overview

Ken Wainstein chairs the firm’s Global Investigations & White Collar Defense practice, and is a member of the National Security and Congressional Investigations practices. He represents clients with their most significant criminal and civil enforcement proceedings, corporate internal investigations, and congressional inquiries. His experience spans the full spectrum of white collar matters, including those involving export controls, sanctions, foreign direct investment, and other national security enforcement issues. He has led numerous high-profile independent investigations and sensitive internal reviews for corporate clients and boards, and represents clients facing significant legal and regulatory challenges before the range of state and federal enforcement entities. With deep experience on Capitol Hill as a senior government official and private practitioner, Ken also represents clients involved in congressional investigations and hearings.

Experience

INDEPENDENT/INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS

  • Conducted the independent investigation into allegations of academic irregularities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill*
  • Conducted the investigation into allegations of improper conduct by investigators in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Enforcement Staff and a broader review and assessment of the policies and procedures of the NCAA's enforcement operations.*
  • Conducted an internal investigation into potential irregularities in a university’s accounting processes.*
  • Conducted an internal investigation of alleged violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute by employees of a health insurance company.*
  • Conducted an independent investigation for a parochial secondary school into allegations of sexual abuse of students by a former teacher.*
  • Oversaw an internal investigation for a major bank into allegations that its accounts were used for money-laundering and corruption.*
