Mayer Brown announced today that A. Joseph Jay III joined the firm as co-chair of its Global Investigations & White Collar Defense practice. He joins Mayer Brown from Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, where he served as practice group leader of the firm’s governmental practice. Joe is resident in the firm’s Washington DC and New York offices.

“Joe and I worked together earlier in our careers, and I'm delighted to be on the same team with him again,” said Ken Wainstein, chair of Mayer Brown’s Global Investigations & White Collar Defense practice. “He is a strategic, insightful lawyer who brings tremendous experience helping clients navigate their most significant enforcement, compliance, and investigative challenges. Joe's arrival, together with the recent addition of new partner BJ Stieglitz, reflects our continued strategic effort to build one of the premier white collar practices in the market.”

Joe advises companies, boards, audit committees and executives on high-stakes government and internal investigations, white collar defense, regulatory enforcement, congressional inquiries and compliance matters. He represents clients before major federal enforcement agencies in complex domestic and cross-border matters involving alleged corporate misconduct, including fraud, corruption, cybercrime, and other regulatory issues while helping clients navigate the legal, business and reputational risks associated with sensitive investigations and enforcement actions.

“Mayer Brown’s white collar defense practice is on a clear upward trajectory," Joe said. “The firm has assembled a remarkable team of white collar lawyers with deep government and private-sector experience, a collaborative culture, and a shared commitment to client service. I am particularly excited to reunite with Ken and to work alongside my new colleagues as we continue to grow the practice and help clients address their most critical challenges.”

Added Andrew Olmem, managing partner of Mayer Brown's Washington DC office: “Joe is an exceptional lawyer with deep experience advising clients on complex regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters. His arrival strengthens our capabilities in areas where client demand continues to grow and reflects our ongoing investment in strategic practice areas.”

Joe's arrival reflects Mayer Brown's continued investment in its Global Investigations & White Collar Defense practice, a strategic priority for the firm as clients face increasingly complex enforcement, compliance, and regulatory challenges. Building on the recent addition of partner BJ Stieglitz and the firm's deep bench of former senior government officials and experienced trial lawyers, the practice continues to expand its capabilities to counsel clients through their most consequential investigations, enforcement matters, and crisis situations.
