Mayer Brown announced today that Andrew Demko joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Consumer Litigation & Class Actions practices. Mr. Demko brings substantial experience in defending consumer class actions especially for financial services providers. He joins from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

“Andy is one of the nation’s leading lawyers on retail banking fee class actions and is a terrific addition to our litigation team, which continues to expand to support the evolving needs of clients across industries,” said Richard Spehr, the leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice.

Mr. Demko is particularly well-regarded for defending companies in high-stakes disputes. He has litigated hundreds of class and individual actions against financial services providers, banks and other consumer facing companies. His work includes not just class action litigation at the trial level, but also appeals (including several successful petitions for permission to appeal class-certification decisions), regulatory matters and government enforcement actions. Mr. Demko has represented companies in a variety of industries, including financial services, media, entertainment, technology and securities. He also has experience with environmental and employment litigation, including ERISA lawsuits and wage and hour class actions. Earlier in his career, Mr. Demko served as a law clerk to Judge Susan H. Black of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

“I’ve long admired Mayer Brown’s stellar consumer class actions team and integrated financial services litigation, corporate and regulatory practices,” said Mr. Demko. “I see strong synergies with my new colleagues and look forward to collaborating on some of our clients’ most complex matters.”

“Andy’s arrival solidifies the firm’s commitment to building upon our offerings in the California market,” said John Nadolenco, the managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office. “Class action litigation remains active, particularly in California. Our clients will greatly benefit from his litigation, regulatory and enforcement experience.”
