Proposed Overhaul of Bank Regulatory Capital Requirements
On March 25, 2026, finance partners Eric Reilly (Charlotte, NC) and Miller Smith (Charlotte, NC) and bank regulatory partner Matthew Bisanz (Washington, DC) spoke to the CRE Finance Council on the new US Basel Endgame proposal.
The US federal banking regulators have jointly proposed extensive reforms to the regulatory capital requirements for US banking organizations. The revisions are lengthy and would change the requirements for credit, market, and operational risk. Some of the revisions are long-expected (e.g., re-evaluation of use of internal models), but others are novel (e.g., impact on sponsor guarantees) or changes to international standards that reflect the American economy. The revisions may have a significant impact on aspects of the commercial real estate finance markets, even though that is not a specific focus of the regulators. Join Eric, Miller, and Matt to learn what this proposal means for CRE finance.
