Global Arbitration Review has announced the return of GAR Live: Abu Dhabi. This interactive conference will bring together practitioners from across the United Arab Emirates and further afield including arbitrators, private practice lawyers, funders, expert witnesses, senior general counsel and more, to debate and analyse the latest major developments in arbitration.

Alain Farhad will speak as part of a panel session on the subject of ‘Addressing complex arbitrations’. In this session he will discuss the following:

  • How has international arbitration procedure evolved to handle the complexities posed by a dispute involving multiple parties and multiple contracts, parallel proceedings, and non-participating parties?
  • What changes have been made to cover issues such as joinder, consolidation, and parallel proceedings.
  • The status of the MENA legislation and local court’s approaches to joinder and consolidation.
  • Is arbitration limited by its inherent principles such as party autonomy when it comes to facing challenges arising from complex disputes?

He has been invited to take part on the suggestion of the conference Chairs, Alec Emmerson (Independent arbitrator) and Lara Hammoud (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company).
