Business Immigration 

Mayer Brown, a preeminent global law firm, seeks business immigration staff attorneys to form part of our proprietary 10X Mobility Program, a state of the art program for major companies to manage their worldwide immigration and mobile work force needs.  The 10X docket for the Business Immigration Staff Attorneys will include development, tracking, reporting, and monitoring of US business immigration filings, in financial services, consulting, manufacturing, IT, infrastructure, chemicals, energy, defense, and life sciences.  Visa categories will include:  H-1B, L-1A and L-1B, TN, O-1, PERM, I-140, and Adjustment of Status, and are customized for each key client.  

Mayer Brown seeks experienced business immigration attorneys who are committed to and take pride in achieving premier quality .  Candidates must have proven experience managing high volumes of filings with precision, accuracy, and agility.  Experience with immigration case management technology systems and other IT tools is required.  References should attest to excellence in all work product and communications, a high work ethic and consistent productivity, reliability and accessibility, and the candidate’s ability to work well as part of an integrated, communicative team.  Early warning of complex issues or challenges is an important part of the position, requiring candidates to be effective at keeping partners and supervising associates informed at all stages of delivery.  Proven ability to meet milestones and deadlines is essential.  Good judgment and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of information is required.

Transactional Attorney Fellowship

Mayer Brown LLP is accepting applications for its inaugural Transactional Attorney Fellowship in the Charlotte office with a focus on Fund Finance.  The program will provide new law graduates the opportunity to contribute to the Firm’s pro bono and legal innovation initiatives while developing valuable practice-related skills as a practicing attorney.

The Transactional Attorney Fellowship Program

During the one-year program, Fellows will:

(a)  spearhead one or more significant pro bono projects in conjunction with the Firm’s pro bono practice;

(b) work closely with the Firm’s legal innovation team to identify, implement, and refine initiatives, including assisting in the development and implementation of legal technologies such as artificial intelligence and process management systems; and

(c) be fully-integrated into a team of seasoned lawyers in a Mayer Brown practice group, where they will gain hands-on experience as a practicing transactional attorney.  The 2021 Fellows will focus on the Fund Finance practice.

Pro Bono

The Firm believes that pro bono work is a critical component of our profession and an important factor in evaluating our true excellence as a Firm.   Our goal is for every lawyer to contribute pro bono work each year.   Fellows will have the opportunity to lead pro bono projects as well and they would work with the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee to identify and lead office-wide pro bono projects.

Legal Innovation

Fellows will partner with Mayer Brown’s Legal Innovation and Strategy team to evaluate and pilot new technologies that enable attorneys to work more efficiently and to ensure that Mayer Brown remains at the forefront of legal innovation.  These tools will include, but are not limited to, contract drafting and review, deal structure visualization, and online transactional management.  Fellows will be trained on and help drive the use and adoption of the most innovative tools in Mayer Brown’s legal innovation toolkit, including the use of artificial intelligence systems.  As practicing attorneys, Fellows will also be uniquely qualified to identify new opportunities for legal innovation that directly impact the practice.

Transactional Attorney Apprenticeship

Fellows will be integrated into a Mayer Brown transactional practice as a practicing junior attorney.  By working with this team, Fellows will develop key transactional practice skills, including how to structure, diligence, and negotiate and manage a transaction.  In addition to gaining valuable on-the-job experience, Fellows will participate in an intensive training program led by Mayer Brown partners, associates and the firm’s clients.

The 2021 Fellowship Class will join our market-leading Fund Finance practice as practicing attorneys for the Fellowship year.  This practice focuses on structuring financings in favor of private equity and similar private capital funds and represents both the funds (as borrowers) and their lenders (including banks and other funds).  Fellows will obtain first-hand experience by working on some of the most sophisticated and complex Fund Financings in the lending market.  Specifically, Fellows will learn (a) how Funds and related financings are structured to account for tax, regulatory and other legal considerations, (b) how and why Funds use leverage, (c) the components of a Fund Finance transaction, and (d) how to close and maintain a deal.  Working closely with the partners and associates in the practice, Fellows’ primary responsibilities will include (i) conducting due diligence on the Fund organizational document, (ii) preparing initial and revised drafts of transactional documents, (iii) assisting in the negotiation of the transaction, and (iv) managing the deal closing and post-closing process.

Program Duration

  • One year following graduation from law school and completion of North Carolina bar exam
  • Graduates of the fellowship program will have the opportunity to interview for open first-year associate and/or staff attorney positions with the firm

Compensation

  • $75,000 annual base salary

Conflicts Attorney

The Conflicts Attorney will support the Legal Risk Management department in Chicago with the clearance of conflicts of interest for client matters. The Conflicts Attorney will interact directly with lawyers in the global offices of the firm to analyze and clear conflicts. Responsibilities will include:
