Joanna K.C. Wong

Joanna Wong advises on a broad range of data protection, technology, media, telecommunications and intellectual property matters. Her practice covers advisory, transactional and contentious work, and she regularly assists multinational corporations, technology companies, financial institutions and consumer-facing businesses with the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to their operations across Asia.

On the data privacy front, Joanna regularly supports clients on cross-border data transfers, privacy documentation preparation and enhancements, user consent mechanisms, privacy impact assessments and other compliance obligations. She works with clients to identify gaps, recommend operational changes and develop practical measures to achieve compliance.

Joanna also supports clients on regulatory compliance for technology and data-driven product launches and market entry, as well as the enterprise adoption of emerging technologies. She regularly drafts and reviews privacy policies and manuals, data processing agreements, IP license agreements, and other commercial contracts with a data protection or intellectual property element.

In addition to her advisory work, Joanna has hands-on experience in supporting data incident response, assisting clients in navigating notification requirements across Asia and coordinating responses to regulator enquiries. She also assists with brand protection and enforcement matters.

Joanna is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
