David Saye is a partner in Mayer Brown's Real Estate practice and serves as lead for the practice in the Charlotte office. He has a diverse real estate practice in the areas of real estate financing, corporate real estate, commercial leasing, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, and development. He represents developers, financial institutions, pension funds, private equity funds, real estate investment trusts, real estate operating companies, and corporations in connection with construction and permanent loan financing, new developments, dispositions, joint ventures, leasing and acquisitions. These real estate projects have included office, hotel, casino, residential, retail, industrial and mixed-use buildings. In 2014, he was named to Charlotte Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40,” an annual list which recognizes “Charlotte’s best and brightest young professionals for the strides they are making in their careers as well as their civic contributions.” He was also recognized by Law360 as a "Rising Star for 2014."
Chambers USA 2017 describes David as “very strong and knowledgeable in local and national real estate; he has good business acumen and gets the deal done while minimizing risk.” Chambers USA 2015 notes that David is “understanding of the business issues and is very talented at working through county and city political issues.” Legal 500 2015 also praises David for his “in-depth knowledge of the issues and relationships with regulatory agencies to move projects along.”
Represented an institutional lender in a series of amendments of a $7 billion credit facility for a large casino/hotel operator secured by casinos and hotels located in multiple states.
Represented an institutional lender in the restructuring of a $1.8 billion construction loan facility for a casino/resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, which is the largest ever private construction project in North America.
Represented an institutional lender in a $360 million syndicated loan to a national foodservice distributor secured by offices and warehouses located in multiple states.
Represented an institutional lender in a $300 million syndicated loan to a domestic food production company secured by offices, warehouses and manufacturing facilities in multiple states.
Represented an institutional lender in a $200 million syndicated loan to a national homebuilder secured by single-family developments located in multiple states.
Represented an institutional lender in a $195 million construction loan to a national developer for a 51 story condominium located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Represented an institutional lender in a $187 million sale/leaseback of a prior headquarters building located in Chicago, Illinois.
Represented a life insurance company in a $171 million acquisition of a mixed-use development located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Represented an institutional lender in a $155 million sale/leaseback of four call centers located in four separate states.
Represented a financial services organization in a $101 million acquisition of a mixed-use facility located in Evanston, Illinois.
Represented an institutional lender in a $45 million equity investment and $8 million construction loan to a developer for two low-income housing tax credit condominiums located in Miami, Florida.
Represented a large casino operator in the $43 million acquisition of a horse racetrack outside Cleveland, Ohio.
Represented a REIT in the $25 million acquisition of two senior living facilities located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Represented a major intercollegiate athletic conference in the license and use of space in various arenas, stadiums and other sporting venues, including negotiating the use of banquet facilities and luxury suites, and the allocation of concession and broadcast fees.
Represented an automotive parts company in the leasing of 930,000 square feet of space in a automotive manufacturing facility located in Kettering, Ohio.
Represented an international airline in the leasing of warehouse facilities located at O’Hare International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.
