Mayer Brown captured two awards at the IFLR Asia Pacific Awards 2023. The firm won the “Debt and Equity-linked Deal of the Year” award for advising on the Republic of Indonesia’s switch tender offer, and the “Pro Bono Team of the Year”.
The firm represented the lead arrangers in the Republic of Indonesia’s inaugural switch tender offer, targeting six series of its outstanding notes due in 2023 to 2038. The transaction represents the first liability management exercise in Asia in that format since 2018.
The team was led by Corporate & Securities partner Thomas Kollar and included associates Hening Zhang and Nicole Fulk, and corporate finance officer Iris Gong (all Hong Kong).
Mayer Brown was also named Pro Bono Team of the Year in recognition of its impactful pro bono projects in 2022, including:
- Developing a guide and mobile app for UNHCR to promote access to education for refugees and asylum seeker students in Hong Kong. It is the first guide of its kind for Hong Kong’s refugee and asylum seeker communities.
- Launching a legal inspiration program for students from all walks of life with Hong Kong Scholars to pursue higher education and foster upward mobility, designed to expose the students to the legal profession and inspire them about the role of lawyers in society.
- Supporting Beneficial Returns, a social impact investment fund, by drafting the facility and guarantee agreements for a loan to a social enterprise in the coconut business in the Philippines. The loan created jobs and promoted the use of organic farming techniques.
The annual IFLR Asia Pacific Awards celebrate the most innovative cross-border deals from Asia and the lawyers behind, and recognizes powerful programs in areas such as pro bono and net-zero transition.
