Mayer Brown was awarded an 'Excelling' performance rating in the Thriving at Work Survey of the City Mental Health Alliance Hong Kong (CMHA HK) for the second consecutive year.

The survey, introduced in Hong Kong in 2019, assesses company members of CMHA HK on their implementation of mental health strategies in the workplace, and highlights any areas where companies can focus on to achieve their workplace development goals.

To achieve an 'Excelling' rating, employers must demonstrate: leadership engagement in mental health and well-being; tailored mental health strategies with mentors as role models; trained managers able to discuss well-being; and a supportive system for employees returning to work following any mental illness.

In addition to achieving an "Excelling" performance, Mayer Brown was also recognized for achieving an overall score of 228, above the CMHA HK member average score of 178, in the six mental health standards and various initiatives the companies were being assessed for in the survey.

Terence Tung, senior partner of Mayer Brown in Asia, said: "We take pride in our achievements in fostering a healthy work environment. The events in the past two years and the uncertainty of the future have increased our risks for mental health issues. Hence, we remain steadfast and passionate in our efforts to ensure the mental health and well-being of our staff are well supported."

Hannah McLeod, managing director of CMHA HK, said: "Mayer Brown has achieved remarkable results in the Thriving at Work Survey in 2022, which effectively places the firm in the top 20 percent of CMHA HK member companies with the strongest mental health strategies."

She noted that Mayer Brown is particularly strong in developing mental health awareness among its staff and making information, tools and support accessible; providing employees with good working conditions and ensure they have a healthy work life balance; and in promoting effective people management to ensure staff have regular conversation about their health and well-being with their managers.

"Mayer Brown has a growing community of mental health first aiders and we had the pleasure of running these training sessions for them. The firm also sponsored representatives from their NGO pro-bono clients to attend the training sessions to help raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues in the community," she added.
