Tauil & Chequer Advogados leads consortium advising BNDES on innovative carbon credit project

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown is leading the consortium formed with Biofílica Ambipar that has been retained by BNDES (the Brazilian Development Bank) to advise on the structuring, development and implementation of the first project in connection with payment of environmental services and generation of carbon credits in public areas, especially conservation units. The initiative seeks to assess and present legal and technical solutions that, in light of domestic and international frameworks, enables the exploration of conservation units not only through tourism and sustainable management, but also by rewarding the environmental services provided by such areas.

The project, which is part of the BNDES' agenda for promoting the carbon credits market in Brazil, is expected to last six months and is led by partner Luiz Gustavo Bezerra and associate Gedham Gomes.
