Havin Jagtiani

With a particular focus on commercial and construction arbitrations, Havin acts as counsel for claimants and defendants/respondents in international disputes involving a wide variety of projects, including solar power plants, airports, hospitals, museums, and other major infrastructure projects. Clients rely on his experience across a wide range of industries across the globe including finance, construction, infrastructure, renewable energy, maritime and oil and gas.

He represents clients in complex high-value arbitrations under ad hoc and ADCCAC, ICAC, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and SIAC arbitration rules with seats in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, London, Miami, Paris, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

Havin joined Mayer Brown in 2018 and spent six months on secondment to Refinitiv, a global provider of financial market data and infrastructure, now a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, during his training contract. During his secondment, he advised on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, including intra-group transfer pricing transactions, commercial contract negotiations with Refinitiv’s consumers and other fintech start-ups, IP and licensing agreements, partnership agreements, sponsorship agreements, and preparations for a dawn raid readiness protocol.

• Acting for a main contractor in high-value proceedings against a government-backed company in relation to a major infrastructure project in the Middle East;
• Advising an international hospitality and entertainment company in relation to claims concerning the construction of a resort in East Asia;
• Acting as Tribunal Secretary on a Jordanian seated ad hoc arbitration concerning the design and construction of an infrastructure project;
• Acting for a major Middle Eastern contractor in an UNCITRAL arbitration and court proceedings in relation to disputes arising out of one of the largest upstream oil development projects in Kuwait;
• Acting for a major Turkish contractor in ICAC arbitrations against an employer in relation to a large-scale metro project in Eastern Europe;
• Advising Messrs. Jak and Edward Sukyas in a pending arbitration under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules against Romania based on US and Canadian bilateral investment treaties;
• Acted for a Spanish consortium in relation to multiple ICC arbitrations concerning the development of solar power plants in North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa;
• Represented an Asian state-owned oil and gas company in a $1.6 billion UNCITRAL ad hoc arbitration arising from an unconventional coalbed methane production sharing contract; and
• Advised a subcontractor in relation to a dispute arising out of the construction of a number of substations in Tanzania.
