Overview

Simon Fisher is a partner in the Banking & Finance practice of the London office.

Simon’s practice is focused on secured asset-based lending (ABL) transactions, particularly large syndicated cross border and trans-Atlantic ABL transactions, where he represents some of the world’s largest banks and financial institutions. He frequently works with colleagues in the US and European offices, as well as a network of contacts in third party firms to provide a seamless cross border service to the firm’s clients.

Simon also represents sponsors, corporates and financial institutions in subscription-backed credit facilities as well as acting for financial institutions and companies across a broad spectrum of domestic and international corporate and commercial financing transactions.

Simon joined Mayer Brown as a trainee in September 1997, qualified into the Banking and Finance Group in 1999 and was made partner in 2012.

Asset-Based Lending

  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a 15 jurisdiction ABL financing across Europe for a fashion retailer.
  • Acting for the purchaser/sponsor in the takeover of a UK listed company where the bank funding was advanced by way of an ABL facility.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a cross border European ABL financing to provide funds for a private equity acquisition of (and working capital/expansion funds for) a group of companies in the auto sector. The ABL funding was also coupled with a receivables purchase structure in Germany and a separate ABL transaction for the same group in the US.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a four jurisdiction ABL financing across Europe for a large retail group.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a US and European ABL financing for a leading menswear retailer.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a working capital ABL facility to a UK based broking house.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a 17 jurisdiction ABL financing across Europe for an automotive battery manufacturer. The facility was provided as part of debtor-in-possession financing arrangements across the globe relating to Chapter 11 proceedings in the US.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of two related financings to different arms of a chemicals company.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of an ABL financing in Malta and Germany to an internet games manufacturer.
  • Acting for a leading global financial institution as the agent and arranger of a seven jurisdiction ABL financing across Europe for a group involved in the retail buying and selling of second hand vehicles.
  • Acting for a medical products manufacturer in relation to ABL facilities to its UK arm for working capital purposes.
  • Acting for a global financial institution in relation to the English law aspects of a European-wide receivables purchase facility.

  • Acting for a leading US financial institution in a number of capital call facilities to funds established by Blackstone.
  • Acting for a major international financial institution in a number of capital call facilities to funds established by KKR.

Corporate and Commercial Financing

  • Acting for a major UK listed building company in a number of acquisitions, as well as a recent set of comprehensive amendments to their financing arrangements.
  • Acting for a major UK listed insurance company in relation to is syndicated financing arrangements.
  • Acting for Comerica Bank in relation to the European elements of a number of working capital facilities to its mid market customers.
  • Acting for an alternative funds provider in relation to the post insolvency financing of a German clothes retailer.
  • Acting for a UK bank in relation to the financing of a European packaging manufacturer based in the UK, Netherlands and Poland.
