Overview

Alina Artunian focuses her practice on representing financial institutions, major corporations, technology and Internet companies, and individuals in complex, sensitive, and high-profile litigation matters.

Clients turn to Alina for her trial and litigation experience in civil litigation matters, including financial and securities litigation, derivative suits, breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, class actions, and copyright infringement matters. Alina has significant experience in New York, Illinois, and California state and federal courts, and she also represents international and U.S.-based clients in AAA and ICDR arbitrations. Alina’s practice also includes appellate work and she is often called upon to represent clients in the United States Court of Appeals and in state appellate courts.

Alina’s pro bono practice has a focus on immigration relief (both at the hearing and appellate level) and she represents clients seeking political asylum, refugee relief, and withholding of removal to countries including Mexico, Afghanistan, and Russia. Most recently, Alina successfully secured a grant of asylum for her client, a student from Afghanistan fleeing the Taliban, through Mayer Brown’s Afghan Refugee Assistance Project.

Alina received her law degree from The University of Pennsylvania Law School. She joined the firm in 2017 and spent a year clerking on the US Court of International Trade for the Hon. Richard W. Goldberg before returning to Mayer Brown in 2020.

Outside of the Firm, Alina commits herself to helping local organizations that support equitable access to legal careers. Alina is the current Chair of the New York City Bar Association National Moot Court Committee and oversees the National Moot Court Competition, the oldest-running inter-law school event designed to promote the art of appellate advocacy. She also volunteers her time to PreProBono, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps low-income and underrepresented individuals gain admission to law school and pursue careers in the public interest sector.

Securing the return of a multimillion dollar mistaken wire payment on behalf of a financial services client after a two-week bench trial and appeal;
Successfully representing a telecommunications company at the district court level in a multimillion dollar breach of contract claim;
Representing a large Internet company in successfully enforcing an arbitration agreement in a multimillion dollar privacy claim;
Securing a favorable settlement representing a pharmaceutical company in a product liability lawsuit;
Representing a large energy company in a tax trial challenging the deductibility of a settlement payment
