Mayer Brown announced today the appointment of Brian Schare as the firm's new chief operating officer (COO).

In his new role, Brian will work within Mayer Brown’s C-suite structure and oversee global administrative operations while driving practice support and improvement, coordinating business services strategy, and advancing the firm’s agenda. He will be based in New York and succeeds Evan Merberg, who recently retired from the firm.

“Brian’s proven leadership and deep experience across law firm operations will be instrumental as we continue to refine our business services model and enhance the value we deliver to our clients,” said Jeremy Clay, Mayer Brown’s managing partner.

Brian brings extensive experience in law firm leadership, operational management, change management and technology innovation, including more than a dozen years as COO at Schulte Roth & Zabel, which merged last year with McDermott. Before his tenure at Schulte, Brian held a number of senior executive roles at Orrick. Previously, he was a practicing lawyer in New York.

“I am honored to join Mayer Brown as COO,” said Brian. “I look forward to working closely with my colleagues across the firm to strengthen our operational foundation, support our lawyers and business services teams, and help drive forward the firm’s strategic priorities.”
