Tauil & Chequer Advogados expands Corporate Governance practice with the arrival of specialist André Camargo

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown has announced its latest strategic hire to strengthen its Corporate Governance practice, which already includes experienced partners Carlos Motta and Daniella Raigorodsky Monteiro. André Camargo is the current president of the Brazilian Institute of Business Law (IBRADEMP) and has an established curriculum with 23 years of experience as a lawyer in these areas.

Over two decades, André has been actively assisting national and foreign clients and, in the academic field, his vast career is marked by passages within renowned educational institutions, with an LL.M. in Corporate Law and Contract Law from the University of California, a Ph.D. in Commercial Law from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a post-doctorate from the University of St. Gallen. André also coordinated Insper Direito for 16 years and, as a professor, has taught at several institutions in the areas of business law, corporate governance, M&A and business ethics, notably at Insper, Saint Paul, IBGC, Mackenzie, Ibmec and FIA. He is also a visiting professor at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

"It will be an immense pleasure to collaborate in the development of the Shareholder Relations and Corporate Governance practice of a firm that is a national and international reference, especially in matters related to the aforementioned subjects, which never cease to be trending topics anywhere in the world. In addition to providing our national and foreign clients with high quality legal services, personalized and thorough attention, it is also essential to provide them with more complete up-to-date readings regarding the complex and uncertain issues that are submitted to us, considering the perspectives of legality, efficiency and integrity, resulting in the values that are most expected today in the business world: trust and legitimacy.", comments André.

For Carlos Motta, head of the area, André's arrival is "the confirmation that clients appreciate how the firm deals with such sensitive and complex issues in an objective and practical way, always seeking to ‘put itself in the client's shoes’ to provide unique, optimized and, in many cases, ‘out of the box’ solutions”. "We have been experiencing an increase in demand over the years for issues related to shareholders, administrators, public bodies and other stakeholders and the arrival of someone of André's caliber, who will be exclusively dedicated to such matters, raises our already respected legal and business delivery capacity to a new level", he adds.

André is the author of several books on business law and corporate governance, such as: "International Regulation of Corporate Governance and Compliance" (Thomson Reuters, 2021); "Related Party Transactions: A Complex and Multidisciplinary Regulatory Challenge" (4th ed., Almedina Brasil, 2019); "Legal Aspects of the Brazilian Business Environment" (Almedina Brasil, 2018). He has also been recognized by renowned legal guides and awards: Band 1 in ESG in the Chambers Brazil 2022 guide; winner of the Leaders League Awards (Brazil's Legal Summit) in the 2022 ESG category; and has also been recognized by the legal directories Latin Lawyer 250 and Análise Advocacia 500.
