Speakers     Maria Evgenidou-Wright, Head of Enforcement at TPR | Kathryn Ramsden, Lawyer, TPR

There has been much interest in how the Pension Schemes Act 2021 changes the powers of the Pensions Regulator (TPR).

Mayer Brown are delighted to invite you to an informative evening with TPR’s Head of Enforcement and a member of its in-house legal team to discuss the TPR’s new criminal and penalty powers in the avoidance space, as well as the changes to the Regulator’s contribution notice power.

The session will comprise a presentation followed by time for questions, and will come after the closure of the consultation periods on the Regulator’s draft policies on its approach to overlapping powers and its new high fining powers, and following publication of its finalised policy approach to its new criminal powers.

The TPR speakers will cover:

  • The changes to TPR powers;
  • TPR’s approach to the new criminal offences in its published policy; and
  • A summary of some of the themes raised by consultation responses on TPR’s overlapping powers and high fining powers and how TPR intends to respond to them.

About the speakers
Maria Evgenidou-Wright is the Head of Enforcement at TPR and has over 20 years’ experience in pension regulation, predominantly in operational roles involving DB pension schemes. For several years Maria has led teams running TPR’s anti-avoidance cases, including high profile investigations into BHS, Coats and Silentnight. She is currently leading a workstream implementing some of the new powers and other changes introduced through the Pension Schemes Act 2021, including the new criminal offences and changes to TPR’s anti-avoidance powers.

Kathryn Ramsden has been a Pensions Lawyer at TPR for the past 7 years, prior to which she was in private practice, predominantly advising private equity and high yield lending clients. Whilst at TPR, Kathryn has worked on several high profile cases, including the Arcadia CVA and the Silentnight avoidance case, as well as clearance, funding, governance and automatic enrolment cases. For more than two years Kathryn has worked on the changes to TPR’s powers in what became the Pension Schemes Act 2021 and subsidiary legislation, and has spent considerable time working on TPR’s recently-published policy approach on its new criminal powers in the avoidance space.
