Edmund "Ed" Parker is the head of Mayer Brown’s Derivatives & Structured Products team.  He advises on SRT and CRT transactions and CRR regulatory capital issues;  complex OTC and structured credit, equity, fx and commodity derivatives; as well as insurance and pensions-linked derivative structures. He also advises on distressed and restructured derivatives, together with our litigators and restructuring colleagues; as well as advising on derivatives regulation issues. (see Experience). 

Ed has been recognised by Chambers and Legal 500 as a Band 1 lawyer and Hall of Fame inductee, and has been nominated as Global Derivatives Lawyer of the Year, a reflection of his technical excellence in this field (see Accolades).

SRT, CRT & Synthetic Securitisation

  • Represented a global European Bank and its Chilean-based subsidiary on the award-winning Project Patagonia, a pioneering US$500 million credit risk sharing facility with a three-year replenishment period. IFC provided credit protection on US$400 million, with a pension fund offering first loss guarantee. These and similar transactions are documented using derivatives technology.
  • Represented a global European Bank and its Brazilian-based subsidiary on Brazil's inaugural capital risk transfer: a multilateral  unfunded guarantee on a BRL 6.3 billion (US$1.2 billion) trade finance portfolio, subsequently upsized to BRL 12.6 billion. First-of-its-kind navigation of Brazilian capital relief and SRT regulatory framework.
  • Represented a global European Bank and its Mexico-based subsidiary on Mexico's inaugural capital risk transfer—an MXN 32 billion SME and corporate loan portfolio backed by a multilateral unfunded guarantee. This landmark transaction established the regulatory framework for synthetic risk transfer in the Mexican and Latin American market.
  • Represented one of the leading financial institutions across Central and Eastern Europe on a EUR 1 billion synthetic securitisation and EUR 77 million credit-linked note issuance, achieving approximately EUR 530 million in risk-weighted asset reduction.
