José Gontijo

José Gontijo is an associate in the Corporate & Securities practice at Tauil & Chequer Advogados, in association with Mayer Brown, in the São Paulo office. José’s practice focuses on merger and acquisition transactions, corporate restructurings, inbound and outbound investments, joint ventures and corporate matters in general, as well as in legal due diligence processes.

José Gontijo is graduated (2012), post-graduated (2014) and completed his master degree (LLM) in Economic and Social Relations (2018) at Faculdade de Direito Milton Campos, and joined Tauil & Chequer Advogados, in association with Mayer Brown in 2026. Previously he worked at Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados (2018 – 2023) and Cepeda Advogados (2023 – 2026), having assisted clients in the energy, private equity, investment funds, real estate and agribusiness, amongst others, industries in more than 30 transactions, totaling more than BRL 30 billion over the past 8 years.

• Represented the quotaholders in the sale of the corporate control of Knox Capital, an investment advisory firm with more than BRL 7 billion under custody, to Azimut Wealth Management
• Represented CIX Share Residencial in the sale of real estate entities to an investment fund managed by Patria (VBI Real Estate)
• Represented the quotaholders in the sale of Lacan Ativos Florestais, an asset management firm focused on the forestry sector with BRL 1.5 billion under management, to Vinci Partners
• Represented eureciclo (New Hope Ecotech) in the joint venture with Good Karma Partners
