Matthew Fenn is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution associate in Mayer Brown’s Chicago office. Matt represents national and multinational corporations, and directors and officers of those corporations, in complex litigation in federal and state courts, as well as in complex white collar and regulatory defense and internal investigations. Matt previously practiced in the firm’s New York office.

Matt’s civil litigation experience spans a wide range of industries and subject areas, with a focus on post-acquisition, business, and financial services disputes. Matt has significant experience advising clients at all phases of litigation, including initial fact investigation in advance of litigation, briefing dispositive motions, complex discovery, defending and deposing fact and expert witnesses, and representing clients at trial and on appeal.

Matt has also represented corporate and individual clients in white collar and regulatory investigations, including matters involving the US Department of Justice, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and state attorneys general. These investigations have involved a range of substantive areas, including the False Claims Act, fraud, and consumer protection.

In addition, Matt maintains a robust pro bono practice. Matt is a member of the firm’s litigation team in Al Otro Lado v. Wolf, where the firm and its co-counsel have won important victories to ensure that thousands of asylum seekers have access to the US asylum process at ports of entry on the US-Mexico border.

Matt served as a law clerk to the Honorable Cathy Seibel of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Prior to joining the firm, Matt received his law degree cum laude from Fordham University School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Fordham Law Review and received the Best Brief award at the William Hughes Mulligan Moot Court Competition. Before law school, Matt taught high school English in Bronx, New York through the Teach For America program. Matt received a masters degree in Teaching from Pace University and a bachelors degree in History and English from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was a starting goalkeeper for the men’s soccer team.
