Khaled Abdelhaq

Khaled advises contractors, state entities, investment funds, and energy companies on disputes before leading international arbitral institutions, primarily LCIA and ICC. He also counsels clients on arbitration-related English court proceedings, enforcement of arbitral awards across multiple jurisdictions, and applications for emergency and interim relief.

Khaled brings a strong understanding of the legal and commercial landscape of the Middle East. Before joining Mayer Brown, he worked for another prominent international firm in London and Dubai, where he developed his practice across construction, oil and gas, insurance, and corporate disputes. Khaled is fluent in Arabic and English.

• Acted for an international engineering and contracting company in an ICC arbitration concerning claims for delays and defective works in the construction of a subsea pipeline for the import and regasification of LNG.
• Acted for a state in various ICC arbitration proceedings concerning oil and gas production and profit-sharing disputes, including advising on the disposal, assignment, and termination of rights under oil and gas projects.
• Supported the representation of a Saudi investment fund in an LCIA claim against a real estate developer concerning a suspended real estate project, including conducting an internal investigation into the origin of the fund's investment.
• Advised state-owned creditors and shareholders on a proposed restructuring of the debts of a joint venture entity responsible for the construction and operation of one of the world's largest LNG plants.
• Acted for a Saudi investment fund in a debt recovery claim under a Murabaha (Islamic financing) facility agreement, including advising on the appointment of an emergency arbitrator to award interim relief.
