Mayer Brown is proud to co-sponsor Equal Justice Works (EJW) fellow Calleigh Higgins in partnership with firm client Spotify and New York Legal Assistance Group. During her two-year fellowship, Calleigh will provide direct legal representation, community outreach and policy advocacy on behalf of middle and high school students of color and students with disabilities impacted by the literacy crisis in New York City.

Mayer Brown and Spotify also recently sponsored EJW fellow Tyahija Martin in partnership with Girls for Gender Equity. Tyahija’s two-year fellowship focused on advocating for the equity of Black and brown girls and transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming youth in New York schools.

Mayer Brown’s sponsorship of both EJW fellows supports its pro bono and community service initiative, Project Equity, which seeks to broaden the firm’s engagement on issues of racial and social justice to bring about meaningful change. Education is one of the initiative’s primary issue areas.

“It’s an honor to support EJW fellows along with valued clients and community organizations to combat systemic issues on a greater scale,” said Marcia Tavares Maack, Mayer Brown’s global director of pro bono.

EJW is the nation’s largest facilitator of opportunities in public interest law. Its fellowship program allows public interest lawyers to design their own unique projects in partnership with legal services organizations.
