Marjan Batchelor is a trial lawyer who represents clients in a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters.
Her practice includes commercial disputes, internal investigations, trade secret and unfair competition matters, antitrust litigation, class actions, and complex discovery disputes. She has represented clients across a variety of industries, including energy, manufacturing, technology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, financial services, consumer products, and industrial services sectors.
Marjan has significant experience handling complex business disputes and internal investigations involving complex technical, business, financial, and data-related issues. She regularly works with forensic, accounting, economic, industry, and technical experts and excels at distilling complex concepts into clear, persuasive arguments. Her experience includes developing investigative strategies, managing complex factual records, examining witnesses, and advising clients on risk management and dispute resolution. She has represented clients in trade secret, unfair competition, antitrust, and other high-stakes commercial matters, including serving on the trial team for an International Trade Commission proceeding involving highly technical trade secret allegations.
Her recent matters have included energy-sector litigation, trade secret and confidential information matters, internal investigations, post-closing M&A disputes, government merger reviews, and corporate governance disputes. She has represented multinational energy companies, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and industrial services companies in complex commercial disputes involving operational, contractual, and governance issues.
Marjan also has substantial experience with electronic discovery, information governance, and data-intensive litigation, including managing complex discovery efforts involving large volumes of electronically stored information. She is an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certified AI Governance Professional (AIGP) and advises clients on issues involving technology, data governance, and litigation risk.
She devotes significant time to pro bono efforts, with a focus on voter education, asylum, child welfare and protection, and securing protective orders for victims of domestic violence. She also enjoys volunteering with high school and college students, educating them about the legal profession and how to best position themselves for success despite financial and other limitations.
Marjan also serves on the Executive Committee of the Southern District of Texas Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and is a board member of reVision, a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to helping underserved youth achieve academic, professional, and personal success.
Before joining Mayer Brown, Marjan was a business litigation associate at a Minneapolis-based firm, and she served as a judicial clerk for Justice Alan C. Page of the Minnesota Supreme Court and Judge Paul A. Magnuson of the US District Court for the District of Minnesota.
