Paul C. de Bernier

Having spent eight years leading Mayer Brown’s US M&A and Capital Markets desks in London, Paul brings deep experience to cross-border transactions and to clients with international operations - including non-US investors making acquisitions, minority investments, or establishing a US presence. He works closely with the firm’s offices across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and co-chairs the firm’s India practice, with active roles in its Korea and Japan practices.

Outside his core transactional practice, Paul also advises clients in the technology, sports, and entertainment sectors.

Recognized in Chambers and Legal 500 as a key individual, Paul has been described as “highly knowledgeable,” someone who “excels in tough negotiations,” and a “top quality lawyer, insightful and responsive” with “excellent, remarkable service.” He has also been named a “Top 100” lawyer by the Los Angeles Business Journal and recognized as a “key player” in India transactions by the India Business Law Journal.

Paul has taught on international business transactions, US financial regulation and venture capital at Stanford, USC Gould School of Law, and King’s College London, and has delivered CLE programs for BARBRI/Strafford, among others.

He has lived in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and is fluent in Hindi and conversant in French.
