Paris - Mayer Brown has advised Gutami Holding BV ("Gutami") and its local development partner on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the Government of Burkina Faso and a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with national utility company SONABEL. Upon financial closing, the project will deliver 150 MWp of solar photovoltaic power integrated with a 50 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to the national grid over a 25-year term; and is poised to become the largest solar pv project in West Africa.
Set to achieve commercial operations in Q4 2027, the project is a major pillar in Burkina Faso’s national energy policy, which aims to secure and expand access to reliable, low-cost electricity. All key approvals, including permits, ESIA, licenses, and land rights, have been successfully secured. The grid interconnection point has been formally allocated by SONABEL.
