Brussels — Mayer Brown has appointed Government & Global Trade partner Jean-Philippe Montfort as office managing partner (OMP) for Brussels, effective 1 September 2021.

Jean-Philippe, a leading practitioner on EU chemical control (REACH), product safety and liability and regulatory law, joined Mayer Brown as a partner in 2006. He leads the firm’s REACH team and has a successful track record defending cases before the European Courts and the European Chemicals Board of Appeal. Jean-Philippe, who also leads the firm’s global Chemicals industry group, has been the acting managing partner of the Brussels office since January 2020.

Mayer Brown’s Brussels office serves as a hub for European Union law, policy and regulatory activity, with lawyers advising on a range of antitrust, competition, trade, government affairs and tax issues.

“The Brussels office is central to our advisory services for EU trade, law and regulatory compliance,” said Jean-Philippe. “It also complements Mayer Brown’s pan European and global offering. As office managing partner, I look forward to furthering collaboration with my leadership colleagues in Europe, and those in other markets, as we strive to attract and retain the best talent to deliver a first-rate service to our clients.”
