Mayer Brown’s Tax Transactions & Planning team provides tax transaction and advisory services to clients in all areas of taxable and tax-free mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, leveraged and structured financings, financial products, investment funds, insurance companies, derivatives, tax credits, tax policy, and other tax matters. We deliver counsel that goes beyond the matter at hand, considering the client’s business as a whole.
Our Tax Controversy & Litigation team represents clients throughout the controversy process, whether counseling in anticipation of or during tax audits, pursuing administrative appeals of audit results, or litigating tax matters at the trial or appellate court level. We are one of the most active tax controversy teams in the United States and have extensive experience acting for taxpayers on a wide range of tax disputes in Paris and Brazil. Using our deep, comprehensive knowledge of tax law as well as our finely tuned advocacy skills, we resolve large, complex matters.
Our International Tax & Transfer Pricing team advises clients on planning and structuring multijurisdictional, cross-border transactions, including global integrations and reorganizations, cross-border partnerships and joint ventures, intangibles, supply-chain planning, transfer pricing and minimizing worldwide effective tax rates. Our team, one of the most active and experienced in the United States in transfer pricing matters, includes many lawyers with significant experience in the US government, as well as a Ph.D. economist. We employ innovative techniques in advising clients on transfer pricing structuring, negotiating unilateral and bilateral advance pricing agreements (APA), and resolving transfer pricing and other tax treaty issues through the competent authority process (mutual agreement procedure (MAP)).
Mayer Brown’s State & Local Tax (SALT) team represents clients on a full range of SALT matters from complex transactions and structural planning to audit defense and litigation. Our team, including lawyers with experience in federal, state and local departments of revenue, uses its considerable knowledge and practical experience to provide creative solutions. We advise on a broad array of tax types, including corporate income and franchise, gross receipts, sales and use, real property transfer, utility, business license, and personal income tax matters.
Our Private Clients, Trusts & Estates team provides high-net-worth individuals and families legal advice that is as sophisticated as their business and investment interests. Our team offers a world class range of tax, cross border and domestic estate and business planning, and charitable advisory services to individual clients, family groups, fiduciaries, and charitable organizations. We advise professional fiduciaries, represent parties in fiduciary litigation, and counsel fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates.
