Mayer Brown announced that Real Estate partner Edgar Khalatian (Los Angeles) was selected to Connect Media Commercial Real Estate’s 2020 “Lawyers in Real Estate” list. This inaugural list recognizes the top 50 real estate attorneys in the US who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.

Mr. Khalatian has extensive experience in land use regulation and in obtaining entitlements for real estate development projects (including residential development and mixed use projects), compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), drafting development agreements, and water supply issues.

The publication highlighted Mr. Khalatian’s role in several high-profile and complex land-use projects in California, including the Reef, a three-million-square-foot mixed-use project in downtown Los Angeles. He also represents (i) Millennium Partners with the $1 billion redevelopment of the famed Capitol Records property in Hollywood, (ii) The GPI Companies with the redevelopment of the Amoeba Records site with a 26-story residential tower, (iii) AvalonBay Communities with a 475-unit mixed-use project in the Arts District, (iv) Mitsui Fudosan America with a 50-story high-rise in downtown Los Angeles, (v) the Watt Companies with the joint development of a mixed-use project with Metro at the Crenshaw/Expo station, and (vi) Harvard-Westlake School with the River Park Campus, a 17-acre athletic campus with significant community amenities.

Additionally, Mr. Khalatian is an active member of the land use community; he was appointed to serve as co-chair of the Los Angeles Zoning Advisory Committee. In this role, he regularly works with the Planning Department to revise the City’s outdated zoning code. He also serves on the board of directors of the Central City Association and chairs CCA’s Political Action Committee. He previously was the chairman of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association’s Land Use Committee for more than five years.
