Real Life: Hats Off to Jon Jaffe

Share

Here at Mayer Brown in Northern California, we get no kick from (virtual) champagne. And it’s hard to capture the flourish of clinking glasses online in the WFH environment. So, we honored our retiring partner (and new senior counsel) Jon Jaffe with a “Hat’s Off” Party. Each of our NorCal colleagues showed up ready to toast—and roast—Jon wearing their favorite, or most outrageous chapeau so we could doff them in tribute to Jon and his new role. Since we couldn’t physically be together, this was a visual, fun way to literally take off our electronic trilbys, fedoras and panamas to show our affection and esteem for a great colleague.

From bunny ears to Stetsons, the headgear was top-notch. Standouts included Eric Evans’s traditional Turkish börk and Magnus Karlberg’s native Norwegian moose head. Bike enthusiast Mike Molano just barely outraced one of the Tiger King’s fiercest felines. Jon’s longtime colleague, DC partner Phil Schulman, Zoom-bombed in to deliver a sparkling retro roast worthy of Dean Martin.

Jon joined Mayer Brown in 2016 as part of a team to help lead an expansion of the firm’s Consumer Financial Services offering. In his new role, Jon will continue to represent clients such as banks, mortgage, consumer finance and fintech companies; and secondary market participants on regulatory issues related to consumer and commercial loans. We all tip our hats to you, Jon!
