Darren Foo helps clients move complex and ‘first-of-its-kind’ energy and infrastructure projects from development through financing with clear and practical legal advice. Darren advises sponsors, project companies, developers, and lenders on project, energy, and infrastructure transactions across Asia – including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, India, and Bangladesh. His knowledge spans the conventional power, renewable energy, infrastructure, and oil and gas sectors.

Darren’s experience prior to joining Mayer Brown includes:

• Advised a global US-headquartered energy and commodities firm on the development and financing of its portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Taiwan (PFI’s Asia Pacific Battery Deal of the Year in 2022).
• Advised a major Indonesian energy developer on its bid for an importer license to import electricity from Indonesia to Singapore in response to the Electricity Market Authority’s (EMA) request for proposal to import up to 1.2GW of electricity in Singapore.
• Advised sponsors in relation to the development and financing of a 200MW solar project at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park, including joint venture and shareholding arrangements in respect of a subsequent investment by an Indonesian sovereign wealth fund in the project.
• Advised a leading Singapore-based bank, and other commercial banks, as lenders to the financing of a ground-mounted and rooftop solar photovoltaic power project portfolio of over 300MW in Singapore.
