Matthew Provance is a partner in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown's Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. His practice is focused principally on the defense of corporations in complex civil antitrust litigation and consumer class actions. He has briefed and argued successful motions at all stages in litigation, including dispositive motions, in both state and federal court. Matt regularly advises his clients on defensible electronic discovery practices and has extensive experience navigating the discovery process in large-scale, multiyear civil litigation. Matt also has deposed and defended dozens of witnesses in depositions, including experts, in connection with his engagements.

Additionally, in 2011, while in his first year with the firm, Matt was one of the attorneys at Mayer Brown who represented Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel in the successful defense of a lawsuit brought challenging Mayor Emanuel’s candidacy and his status as a resident of the City of Chicago, ultimately resulting in a unanimous decision in his favor by the Illinois Supreme Court.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Matt served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Conrad, Jr., Chief US District Judge for the Western District of North Carolina, where he gained a wide array of both civil and criminal experience, saw numerous jury trials to verdict, and assisted Judge Conrad in appellate matters taken up while sitting by designation on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Matt graduated magna cum laude from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he served as an editor of the Ohio State Law Journal (Law Review) and earned book awards for top grades in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Constitutional Law, and Legal Writing.
