Jeremiah A. DeBerry is a partner and the Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Mayer Brown LLP. Jerry is based in Mayer Brown’s New York City office, where his full‐time responsibility is to ensure that Mayer Brown fulfills its commitment to enhancing diversity in the legal profession. In this capacity, he oversees all aspects of the firm’s efforts to recruit, hire, develop and promote diverse and women lawyers. He is also responsible for the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion policies for all of the firm’s US offices.

An active proponent of diversity in the legal profession for more than 18 years, prior to joining Mayer Brown in 2013, Jerry served as the director of diversity and inclusion for almost seven years at a major New York City-based law firm and is the former president of the National Attorney of Color Network, an organization that serves as a resource for legal employers seeking to establish a diverse workforce. Prior to that, he was a corporate partner in the New York office of a major law firm, where he practiced in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments and sports and entertainment. He is a frequent speaker and panelist on law firm diversity matters, a member of the Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals and the author of “An Advocate of Their Own,” an article published in Legal Times that identifies critical success factors for full-time diversity professionals in law firms, and “Best Practices for Integrating Diverse and Women Attorneys,” an article published in the New York Law Journal that addressed the following factors impacting the career trajectory of diverse lawyers in the “big law” environment—unconscious bias, micro-inequities and social isolation. In 2016, Jerry received the Diversity Leader Award from Profiles in Diversity Journal, a national publication that recognizes diversity officers who are advancing the evolution of diversity and inclusion.
