Amber Thomson is a mid-level associate in Mayer Brown's Washington DC office and a member of the firm’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice. She is also a member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. Amber counsels clients of all sizes on complex and cutting-edge issues related to cybersecurity and privacy. She also works to help clients assess and implement compliance and remediation efforts to comply with international and domestic regulations, including CCPA, CPRA, HIPAA, and GDPR.
Throughout her career, Amber has worked on a variety of cybersecurity incidents, ranging from business email compromises to double and triple extortion ransomware attacks. As part of these efforts, she advises clients through the incident response life-cycle, including remediation, investigation, and notification. Amber also represents clients in responding to federal and state regulatory inquiries that result from these incidents.
Amber regularly collaborates with internal and external clients on privacy and data security due diligence. She also advises clients on employee mobility matters.
Prior to attending law school, Amber worked for A.P. Moller-Maersk in various roles, including as a compliance manager for DAMCO, the strategic human resources manager for Maersk Panama, and as a participant in the company’s esteemed International Shipping Education program. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Amber was an associate at another Am Law 100 firm.
Amber is actively involved in Mayer Brown initiatives. She serves on the Recruiting Committee and Associates Committee, and co-chairs the Washington DC office’s Black Lawyers Affinity Group. In 2020, Amber was selected for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s Pathfinder Program and now serves as the Secretary for the LCLD Alumni Executive Council.
