概要

Kathryne Gray is an associate in Mayer Brown’s Houston office and a member of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. Katie has a broad commercial litigation practice representing clients in state and federal courts, before international arbitral institutions and in internal investigations. She has in-depth experience in all major stages of the litigation process, including drafting and arguing procedural and dispositive motions and appellate briefs, serving and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, representing clients in mediations and settlement negotiations and working on trials.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Katie was a trial and appellate attorney for the United States Department of Justice’s Civil Division in Washington, DC (Main Justice), where she litigated significant civil and criminal cases on behalf of the United States in federal courts nationwide, including in over 40 United States District Courts and Courts of Appeals. During her tenure at DOJ, Katie litigated dozens of cases to summary judgment, achieved more than forty dismissals of cases on motions to dismiss and presented successful oral arguments in complex appeals before the Fourth, Fifth, and DC Circuits, resulting in published circuit authority. In recognition of her work, Katie was awarded the Civil Division’s Perseverance Award in 2019. While at DOJ, Katie also worked with US Attorney’s Offices around the country, several components of Main Justice, the White House, and numerous federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the Departments of State, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security, as well as the FBI, SEC, HSI and local law enforcement agencies.

Earlier in her career, Katie clerked for the Honorable Andrew S. Hanen in the Southern District of Texas. She received her JD, magna cum laude, from Washington and Lee University School of Law and her BS, with highest honors, from the University of Texas at Austin. During law school, she was a licensed student attorney for the Criminal Justice Clinic, spent 4 months working for a non-profit governmental organization in rural villages in Cambodia, and helped lead legal aid initiatives with governmental and community leaders in Monrovia, Liberia, which she presented to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna in a session entitled “Building Public Defender Systems in Post-Conflict and Transitional Settings.” Katie was also a Burks Scholar legal research and writing instructor of first-year law students, Lead Articles Editor of the German Law Journal, Vice President of the Innocence Project and Vice President of the Women Law Students Organization. Katie served as a summer law clerk for Justice Jeffrey V. Brown on Texas’ Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston and interned with the Texas Defender Service.
