Mayer Brown received Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights’ (CLCCR) “Outstanding Law Firm Partner Award” at its Power of Connection event. A long-standing member firm of CLCCR, Mayer Brown was recognized for its impactful pro bono support, over many years, on behalf of small businesses primarily serving disadvantaged communities. This work supports the firm’s pro bono and community service initiative, Project Equity, which seeks to address systemic racism and promote racial equity in the law by focusing on key issue areas, including providing minority-owned small business assistance.

The firm has partnered with CLCCR on a variety of transactional matters in the areas of finance, real estate, intellectual property, corporate and tax, including:

  • Advised Chicago news organization South Side Weekly on its merger with Hyde Park Herald and obtained nonprofit status;
  • On behalf of West Side Forward, conducted legal presentations on corporate entity structures and contract provisions, employment law and intellectual property basics, and provided brief consultations for entrepreneurs; and
  • Worked on a variety of matters for Chicago Community Law Fund, an organization that provides loans in connection with low-income developments.

CLCCR’s Power of Connection event recognizes “community leaders, entrepreneurs, and pro bono attorneys who are collectively strengthening the health and wealth of Chicago’s communities of color.”
