Aperçu

Allison Aviki is a partner in Mayer Brown’s New York office and a member of the Intellectual Property practice.  She concentrates on litigating copyright, trademark, trade dress, and trade secret disputes in courts across the country—both at the trial and appellate level.

Allison has experience in all phases of litigation, from pre-filing investigations through appeals, including managing fact discovery, expert discovery, summary judgment, trial, and settlement negotiations.  Her trial experience includes conducting cross-examinations of witnesses in court; taking and defending fact, 30(b)(6), and expert witness depositions; obtaining the complete exclusion of an opposing damages expert in a software copyright case involving hundreds of millions of dollars in damages; and securing the denial of a preliminary injunction motion in a decision that Law360 named one of the top trademark rulings of the year.  Her appellate experience includes representing clients in the Ninth Circuit, Eleventh Circuit, Federal Circuit, and District of Columbia Circuit, as well as in the Supreme Court of the United States, where she has filed amicus briefs and served clients as both cert-stage and merits counsel.  She regularly advises high-profile companies in industries ranging from food and beverage to publishing, media, and entertainment.  Her pro bono work focuses on civil rights and veterans issues.

Allison received her JD from Harvard Law School.  During law school, she interned for the Honorable Rya W. Zobel of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts; completed a rotation with the Office of the Attorney General of Massachusetts, Appeals Division; worked as a contributor to SCOTUSblog; and served as the Notes & Comments Editor for the Harvard Law School Journal of Law & Technology.  Allison also served as a research assistant to Laurence H. Tribe and I. Glenn Cohen, and taught Copyright Law on the edX platform under Professor William Fisher.  Her extensive teaching experience also includes lecturing on cyber law at Northeastern University and on intellectual property at Columbia Business School.

Prior to her career as an attorney, Allison was a book editor whose authors included award-winning jurists, educators, and journalists.  She holds an MA in publishing and writing from Emerson College, where she received the President’s Award and the Cecil and Helen Rose Ethics in Communication Award.

Allison has spoken at Harvard’s Nieman Conference; at the Women, Action, and the Media Conference at MIT; and at the Boston Bar Association.  Her past board service has been for the Harvard/MIT Cooperative Society and Harvard Law School’s Lambda.
