Mayer Brown announced that Private Clients, Trusts & Estates partner Richard Campbell (Chicago) has been selected as a recipient of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA)’s 2019-2020 John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Award. The award honors the extraordinary commitment of individuals, bar associations or law firms/corporate legal departments that make a substantial contribution to Illinois legal aid.

Mr. Campbell was recognized for his long-term commitment to the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS), including creating CVLS’ Probate Court Assistance Program, in which trusts and estates practitioners represent low-income clients in decedent’s estate cases.

Over the past few years, Mr. Campbell has enlisted nearly 70 experienced trust and estate attorneys to take 170 pro bono decedent’s estates cases for low-income clients who could not afford to hire counsel. His efforts have helped the clients while relieving a judicial system struggling to meet the needs of self-represented litigants in probate courts. Mr. Campbell also received the “Court of Honor” award from CVLS in 2017 for his efforts to expand pro bono legal services.

Mr. Campbell focuses his practice on estate planning for high-net-worth clients, probate and trust administration law, and contested estate and trust matters. He also emphasizes representation of not-for-profit organizations and private foundations, and represents closely held businesses. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
