Mayer Brown announced that three of the firm’s partners have been named 2020 “Rising Stars” by Law360: Banking & Finance partner Amanda Baker (New York), Supreme Court & Appellate partner Daniel Jones (Washington DC) and Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Richard Nowak (Chicago). This annual recognition honors attorneys under 40 “whose legal accomplishments transcend their age.”

Amanda Baker - Structured Finance:
The publication selected Ms. Baker for representing Ally Bank for more than a decade and serving as a lead attorney for the bank on high-profile securitization matters, including two recent auto loan deals totaling nearly $2 billion. Among other notable deals, Ms. Baker advises many fintech companies on various transactions ranging from start-up work to capital markets securitizations. (View profile.)

Daniel Jones - Appellate: Mr. Jones was selected for playing a prominent role in several high-profile US Supreme Court cases, including securing a blockbuster decision for Spokeo Inc., which has led to hundreds of dismissals of putative class actions alleging harmless, technical violations under a broad range of statutes. More recently, Mr. Jones was the lead drafter of Lamps Plus Inc.’s petition and merits briefs that saw the Supreme Court rule that workers aren't allowed to invoke class arbitration unless their arbitration agreements explicitly call for it. Richard Nowak - Benefits: Mr. Nowak was selected for his strong track record of steering clients through novel benefits issues, including recently helping Northrop Grumman convince a federal court to dismiss pension plan participants’ novel claims over allegedly inaccurate payouts. It is one of the first lawsuits claiming a plan administrator violated Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)’s disclosure requirements when the record-keeper incorrectly calculated a participant’s benefits. This case is one of five ERISA class actions that Mr. Nowak is currently handling. (View profile.)
