Today, July 18, 2019, the anniversary of the announcement of the related solicitation,1 New York State announced that it has selected two offshore wind projects—Empire Wind (Equinor US Holdings) and Sunrise Wind (Bay State Wind, a joint venture of Ørsted A/S and Eversource Energy)—with a combined 1696 megawatts (MW) of capacity for contract negotiation.

New York expects that these projects will bring a combined economic impact of $3.2 billion to upstate, downstate and Long Island; will support more than 1,600 jobs in project development, component manufacturing, installation, and operations and maintenance; and will directly offer well-paying careers with salaries of approximately $100,000 per year.
