Commencement of the New Arbitration Ordinance

We refer to our previous Legal Update: Arbitration Bill Passes on 16 November 2010.

The new Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609) will come into force on 1 June 2011.

Under Section 1 of Schedule 3 of Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609) (transitional provisions), the current Ordinance (Cap. 341) will apply to all arbitrations and related proceedings commenced prior to 1 June 2011. Hence Cap. 609 will apply to all arbitrations and related proceedings commenced on or after that date.
